Am I a Muse-ian. Heck yes, and this older album of Muse is no acception to their fame. Muse is known for such good music, and this album doesn't fail to bring that power into such a cd. Best Album in my opinion.~Jorge
This Muse's debut album, and it's rather average. "Cave", "Muscle Museum" and the balladic "Unintended" aren't too bad either. It actually has quite a similar "sound" to their later albums, with a mix of hard and soft-sounding rock songs, except that the songs aren't as easy to listen to, and the songs themselves are less interesting. I did fall in love with "Sunburn" and give it 5 stars. The rest or the songs are mediocre, which is why I average the album 3 stars. If you're trying out Muse for the first time, purchase "Absolution" instead.
I love Muse so much. I'm glad I found this older album that I didnt even know existed. Great stuff. Can't wait for them to tour the states again in the spring.
This was their first album and they were still searching for that sound. ehhh to me.
Anyways, I picked this up the other day, because I was curious to hear Muse's debut. It's not a bad album.
Needless to say I like Muse a lot, they're my 3rd favorite band, and I had only 2 albums, Black Holes and Absolution, before buying this. The rest is all.
it's not much of an album really, it's more of a taste of things to come than anything. I like "Muscle Museum", "Unintended", "Hate This and I'll Love You" and "Sober".
That said I can excuse that. Needless to say, Origin of Symmetry is a better album and has their best track, "New Born", which was used at the end of "Haute Tension".
Like a lot of people I was first introduced to Muse through reading the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. There are no songs onthe CD that I actually dislike, although I like some less than others. I'll grant that the band's sound and Matt Bellamy's vocals bear some similarity to Radiohead, but unlike Radiohead I was instantly hooked on Muse. My first stop was Wikipedia, where I learned as much as I could about the band themselves, then I hopped on over to Amazon, where I listened to sound samples from most of their albums. But I liked Muse enough to buy all their albums, well except for HAARP and the as yet unreleased new album, which I do intend to own at some point. It's fair to say I liked what I heard. Since she drew so much inspiration from their music I was curious to check them out. Particular favorites of mine are Sunburn, Muscle Museum (which has one of the coolest basslines ever as well as some of the coolest lyrics), Cave, Showbiz, Unintended, Uno, Sober and Overdue.
Showbiz is surprisingly solid for a debut release. From the opening notes of Sunburn to the closing, this is definitely a worthwhile album. About the only song of Radiohead's I really like is Creep, and even that got seriously overplayed on the radio. All in all a great start for a great band.
